I was blessed with a friend like Ashley. She came into my life like a force, like I didn’t have a choice, we were going to be friends. It’s rare to make a friend like that later in life, but her bubbly spirit and happy honesty were unavoidable. So, when she came to me and asked me to help her flower and design her wedding, the honor was all mine. I watched Ashley and Carson date for several years and finally get engaged, so when this long anticipated date arrived, I was so incredibly excited. Ashley knew immediately she wanted to get married at her family’s summer home in Big Lake, Louisiana (just outside of Lake Charles). Her grandmother’s house is a little white cottage with a uniformly blue and white interior, like something out of a Harper Lee novel. I teamed up with Cathleen Holloway of Holloway Events to find the perfect balance in the design for Ashley and Carson’s big day. It’s hard to pick a favorite element from this wedding outside of seeing my dear friend marry the love of her life. Maybe it was seeing them swing on the rope swing she designed to match the one she swung on with her father in an earlier time. Maybe it was the linens we custom designed for her to then gift her loved ones with after the big day. Maybe it was the oyster runners, a nod to her very favorite snack, one we’ve shared over glasses of wine maybe a hundred times. Maybe it was the ceremony vows recited on the steps of the old home on the property, washed away in a storm. But really, it was all of it together, the most personal, heartfelt, and homespun wedding I’ve been a part of to date. I love the images that share the story.
